Abstract

Reading has been widely known to positively impact students’ language proficiency in general and reading proficiency in particular. English majors at Hanoi University of Industry, however, do not present an active performance in learning IELTS reading. On the aforementioned basis, we launched extensive reading activities in classes to arouse students’ active attitudes toward reading and better their ability when dealing with IELTS-Test skills. The study’s findings support the conclusion that the extensive reading program is beneficial to students and has positive effects on students’ reading proficiency in pre-IELTS courses. Also, the study’s findings support the broad application of the extensive reading approach of similar programs in the future.
