Rhetorical paradoxes in Xuan Dieu’s poetry

Abstract

By surveying the poetic works of Xuân Diệu, this article examines the rhetorical device of paradox in Xuan Dieu's poetry in terms of structure and value. Paradoxes in Xuan Dieu's poetry are constructed in three forms: word pairs, phrase pairs, and clauses. The poet employs paradoxes to express the contradictions and paradoxes of human life, while also conveying personal reflections on life and existence. Paradoxes reveal a talented and profound portrait of Xuan Dieu.
