Abstract

The present study attempts to investigate translation equivalence between English and Vietnamese business economics terminology. The corpus compiles of 915 English terms and their Vietnamese equivalence which are collected from dictionaries and textbooks in business economics. The findings reveals four different types of translation equivalence in terms of term structure: word//word equivalence, word//phrase equivalence, phrase//word equivalence, and phrase//phrase equivalence, of which English phrase//Vietnamese phrase equivalency has the largest proportion while English phrase//Vietnamese word equivalency has the smallest number of terms translated this way. In regard to the number of equivalent terms in Vietnamese, the study has identified four subtypes of translation equivalency, with the 1//1 equivalency being the most salient. It is expected that the findings of the study will help businesspeople, translators, learners, and teachers gain useful insight into the translation equivalence of business economics
