Reading comprehension competence of first graders according to the new general education program (case studies at some primary schools in Ha Dong district - Hanoi)

Abstract

Reading comprehension is an important competence, which plays a decisive role in the learning process for students at all levels. This is also a matter of concern around the world. Our research aims to survey the current situation of first graders at some primary schools in Hanoi city with the desire to improve their reading comprehension competence when studying first grade Vietnamese textbooks compiled according to the new general education program (the general education program for Literature, 2018). Thereby, we propose some solutions to form and improve reading comprehension competence for first grade students, contributing to improving the quality of reading comprehension for students in the first stage of primary school, meeting the goal of educational reform in Vietnam in a new period.
