In higher education, learning English can be particularly challenging for non-English majors, such as students majoring in Information Technology, Automotive Technology, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Garment and Fashion Design, due to low engagement and limited learning resources. In the era of Industry 4.0, with the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Grammarly, and QuillBot, language learning is entering a period of profound innovation. These tools not only enable natural language interaction but also help learners personalise their learning paths and enhance their language skills. This study aims to explore engineering students’ perspectives on the benefits and challenges of using ChatGPT in English learning, thereby providing recommendations to use ChatGPT more effectively.
