Area Research and Fieldwork in Compiling the Encyclopedia of Illustrious Generals of the Chan Dynasty

Abstract

The article focuses on clarifying the importance of area research and fieldwork in documenting illustrious generals of the Tran dynasty. They were people who achieved notable military feats but are not recorded in historic documents. However, they have always remembered in local memory through oral traditions, local writing, historical relics, and practices of worship in pagodas, temples, communal houses in the villages, joss houses. These sources play a crucial role in veryfying information about generals for compiling entries of the Encyclopedia of Illustrious General of the Tran dynasty.
