A contrastive analysis of structural features of Stock terminology in English - Vietnamese Financial news

Abstract

The operation of the economy is a dispensable domain of social structure in which the stock market is taken as a mirror of economic development. Most developed countries in the world have vibrantly active stock markets, collaboration and mutual investment. Similarly, the current increasing trading activities in the Vietnamese stock market also require participants to grasp specific concepts and terminologies to work efficaciously. This study aims to investigate the structural characteristics of stock market terminology in both English and Vietnamese. The research was based on the sources from Dictionary of Stock Market Terminology by Nguyen Trong Dan and Nasdaq Glossary of Stock Market for determining the Stock terms. It delves deeply into English and Vietnamese financial news collected within a certain period of time in effort to find analogies and differences in terms of structural features and models; then propose specific conclusions. The specific findings of the study, presented in this article, promise to provide insights for linguists and language educators.
