Code-switching on Facebook social network

Abstract

Nowadays, code switching, especially mixing English in conversations, speeches as well as in written contexts like social networking sites, is a popular phenomenon to those who are fluent in both English and Vietnamese. Therefore, the research was carried out to investigate frequently used types of code-switching and the reasons why they are used in the posts and comments on the author’s Facebook. The results show that, the instances of intra-sentential code-switching are dominant and the most common reason for code- switching is due to participants’ habitual experience.
