An analysis of the engagement system of English research articles according to the appraisal theory

Abstract

This study investigates the evaluative language of English linguistic articles. The study analyses the frequency of categories of the engagement system of the appraisal framework proposed by Martin and White (2005), and studies in-depth the realizations of the contract sub-system. The study’s results show that the contract resources are more frequently employed than expand ones. It is hoped that the study can be of reference for scientists when they write their research articles to improve their articles’ persuasion.
