Mispronouncing dental consonants in English by students at Thuongmai University

Abstract

In the process of learning a foreign language like English, It is difficult for learners to avoid making mistakes, especially mispronunciation. Thus, that instructors identify, point out, explain and help learners rectify these common mistakes plays important role. With a view to accomplishing these purposes, the study was conducted to examine mistakes that were commonly made by 50 second-year Englishmajored students at Thuongmai University when pronouncing 30 words containing dental consonants namely /θ/ and /ð/ in pronunciation tasks given by the researcher in the PhoneticsPhonology class. Based on these findings, the author gave recommendations for teaching and  learning these dental consonants
