Impacts of the subject of Tertiary Study Skills on study process: Students’ perspectives

Abstract

As it is indicated in many researches, effective study skills have been associated with students’ learning outcomes across multiple academic content areas and for diverse learners. Universities including Hanoi University of Industry, therefore, have introduced a range of strategies to support student learning including teaching study skills. The purpose of this article is to examine the impact of the subject of Tertiary Study Skills on the study process of foreign language-majored students at Hanoi University of  Industry. The study was conducted using questionnaires for students who have been taught the subject. Findings indicate that the students value the approach in improving their study skills. They also perceive the difficulties encountered and make recommendations for more efficient implementation of the subject at the university.
