Semantic field of human actions and feelings for “rice” in Vietnamese and Lao

Abstract

It can be said that “rice” plays an important role in the life of Vietnamese people. “Rice” is not only the name of the main dish in Vietnamese’s meals, but also nominates some characteristics of Vietnamese status, life and people. On the basis of establishing a system of words belonging to the semantic field of human actions and feelings for “rice” in Vietnamese, the article compares that with Lao to find out the similarities and differences between the two languages.
