Studying the Book of looking up abbreviations (foreign and Vietnamese)

Abstract

The article studies the method of compiling dictionary of abbreviations by surveying the Book of looking up abbreviations (foreign and Vietnamese). The Book’s headwords are divided into 2 parts: abbreviations of foreign origin and abbreviations of Vietnamese origin, in which foreign abbreviations account for the majority. The headwords are all nouns, they can be single- or multi-element abbreviations. The information in each headword also differs depending on the language of the abbreviations but it usually includes the following sections: pronunciation in Vietnamese, full name, equivalent explanation/Vietnamese name.
