Abstract

This article analyzes the macrostructure and microstructure of Le Robert Dictionnaire des Combinaisons de mots (DCM), a specialized lexicographical resource designed to help users master French collocations. By examining over 2,600 headwords and 162,000 word combinations, the study elucidates a unique method of organizing linguistic knowledge, ranging from grammatical categorization to arrangement by semantic scales and expressive nuances. The analysis reveals that DCM not only enables users to achieve native-like fluency through the use of register indicators and error warnings but also provides valuable lessons for compiling Vietnamese collocations dictionaries. The study suggests adopting DCM’s scientific hierarchical model while expanding the scope of word classes to better reflect the typological characteristics of the Vietnamese language.
