A brief history of compiling Western encyclopedias from Ancient Period to Early Modern Period

Abstract

Encyclopedia is a type of reference work  with a long history of formation and development.  Up to now, many countries around the world,  including Vietnam, have paid special attention to  and developed the compilation of encyclopedias.  Because this is an important work in providing  humanity at all times with basic and accurate  knowledge in all fields of social sciences and  humanities, natural sciences, technical and  technological sciences. To successfully compile  modern encyclopedias, learning about the history of  encyclopedia compilation through different periods  is meaningful and necessary. The article focuses on  presenting the history of compiling Western encyclopedias  from Ancient Period to Early Modern Period.
