Abstract

The study collected data from 207 English personal stories posted on website https:// www.hopeagain.org.uk/. With 186 language examples denoting conceptual metaphors of “death”, the study has investigated and presented 3 common source domains which are used to express “death” in English, including the journey, the sleep/rest and the loss of precious entity. The study also explains the way English people use the knowledge of human psychology - biology, the cultural, social and religious factors to establish the source domains to describe an abstract concept “death” .
