Abstract

The study examines English teaching - learning as an international language in terms of curriculum structure and textbooks from the perspective of culture. This study collected data from English textbooks currently being used at the high school level in Vietnam. Our findings show that from the perspective of culture, English curricula and textbooks at the high school level aim to teach and learn English as an international language. The collected data also reveals that the goal of developing learners’ cultural competence to communicate appropriately in international contexts and the task of transferring, preserving and promoting national values and identities are intertwined
