Applying portfolio to improve English writing skills for students at Thuongmai University

Abstract

The study focuses on investigating the effectiveness of using portfolios to improve writing skills for students at Thuongmai University. The study was conducted by action research method with a sample of 36 first-year students of the Accounting - Audit Faculty, Class of English 1, academic year 2022-2023. Study tools included 2 written tests before and after the experiment, a survey questionnaire distributed to students after using the portfolios. The results showed that there  was a significant difference between students’ written test scores before and after using portfolios. It has proved that using portfolios can help improve students’ writing skills. From the obtained results, the author proposes to enhance writing skills for students of Thuongmai University through the application of portfolios.
