Conceptual metaphor “HUMAN BODY IS A CONTAINER” in Vietnamese modern poetry (in the secondary school philology textbooks)

Abstract

The conceptual metaphor HUMAN BODY IS A CONTAINER is a typical metaphor for the metaphor of the container (in the ontological metaphor), taking the theory of “conceptual incarnation” and the famous concept of “people are the centre” in Cognitive Linguistics as the basis. The article studies how Vietnamese modern poets (in the secondary school philology textbooks) take the physical structure of the body (specifically, body parts) and the corresponding physiological experiences as a basis for mapping in metaphors, thereby approaching the works more deeply from the perspective of Cognitive Linguistics.
