Methods to enhance the quality of teaching and learning vocabulary in Korean test of proficiency

Abstract

Teaching and learning vocabulary plays an extremely important role in the process of learning Korean and taking the Korean Test of Proficiency. However, when studying a higher level, students often have difficulty in learning and remembering vocabulary, leading to a lack of vocabulary that may appear in the Test of Proficiency in Korean. To solve this problem, the author proposes  raising students' awareness of the importance of vocabulary, and at the same time proposes methods and strategies to expand vocabulary for students. These include method of learning and expanding words based on the relationship between vocabulary and reading; method of teaching and learning vocabulary by characteristics (relating to word structure, meaning  and sociolinguistic characteristics). It is hoped that the study will help teachers and students find the most effective way to teach and learn vocabulary.
