The characteristics of tones in some dialects in Nghi Xuân district, Hà Tĩnh province

Abstract

This paper describes the tonal contour F0 and phonation types tones of some less-studied dialects in Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh province. The materials used include audio files recording 2,000 words read by 6 native speakers (3 male, 3 female) living in Cuong Gian, Xuan Vien and Xuan Hoi communes in Nghi Xuân district. The materials were listened and analyzed by the researcher and the results were  verified by the outcomes from the Speech Analyzer, Praat.
