Contents of comparative idioms in Vietnamese

Abstract

Comparative idioms are regarded as a popular idiom type in Vietnamese. They are realized by three component parts, namely contents of comparison, objects compared and connectors of comparison, in which the objects compared are the symbolic images making the contents of comparison explicit. The article presents the survey results of contents of comparative idioms in Vietnamese, including close and open ones. The idiomatic properties of forms and meanings of each comparison content type are also described and analyzed in this article
