Abstract

A Vietnamese monovalent process predicate is a group of predicates denoting the transformation process in which only one element is the subject undergoing the process described  by the predicate. This transformation process can be an unintentional movement, change of position, change in the external or internal state of a person, animal ,or object. Theycan also be the beginning, the appearances, the births, the endings or the terminations, the disappearances, the cessations of existence, the deaths or cessations of things, phenomena, objects or sounds. This article introduces the most general semantic-grammatical characteristics of this group of predicates in Vietnamese.
