Teachers’ direct reproaching act

Abstract

Based on the theory of speech act, the article presents an analysis of teachers’ direct reproaching acts when students made mistakes in instructional situations. Because the performative verb “trách” (reproach) is rarely used directly, it is rather difficult to define the explicit reproach. In this paper we highlight a number of linguistic signs that teachers often use to perform direct reproaching act. The purpose of the study is to provide guidelines for identifying teacher's direct reproaching acts in particular and reproaching act in Vietnamese in general. The research findings could be used as a useful reference for daily interactions, for research and teaching reproaching act in Vietnamese.
