The characteristics of the conceptual explanations in the criminal code of Vietnam

Abstract

The present study analyzes the characteristics of the conceptual explanations in the current criminal code of Vietnam. The methods used in this study include the descriptive statistic method, qualitative analytical method. The results show that structurally, the conceptual explanations are mainly defining structure. Besides, the listing structure and the combination of the descriptive and listing structures are also found.  Semantically, the conceptual explanations use the literal/direct meanings. Thereto, in the law documents, the narrowing of meanings of the linguistic units are also used which attests to the exactness of the connotations in the criminal code. Therefore, attention should be paid to this linguistic characteristics during the compilation of the code, the use of the conceptual explanations in the criminal code of Vietnam at the current and future time.
