Expressions of time in folk songs of Huế

Abstract

Time is an abstract concept in the perceptive world of human beings. The perception of time is realized through specific linguistic means. In literary works, time is an artistic element which contributes to expressing the attributes of the art world. Based on the data of time surveyed in the folk songs of Hue, the article points out the characteristics of the expressions of time in general, the expressions of durations and points of time in particular in the folk songs of the Hue region, thereby contributing to enriching the understanding of Vietnamese folk songs as well as the expressions of time in Vietnamese.
